YASMIN HAYWARD
TAP, JAZZ

What is your favourite dance memory?
it’s way too hard to pick, but some of my favourite moments in the studio have been laughing with my tap friends over the horrendous state of my tap shoes, or finally being able to do clean pirouettes after years of practice.

What do you love about dance?
I love the expression that comes with dance, i think movement is so closely tied with emotions and dance is my perfect way of expressing that without verbal language. I also love the dance community no matter the studio you come from, dancers can always relate and connect in a certain way. And I’ve made so many friends through dance. dance makes me happy 😁

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
just dance!!!! it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been dancing for, if you haven't tried that style before, just give it a go. You don’t have to be the best dancer in the room to enjoy dancing - as long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters. also, EVERYONE gets nervous (coming from the most nervous person when it comes to performing) but nothing beats the feeling of having fun on stage and being proud of yourself after the dance for having a go!

AMY PHAM
DIRECTOR OF DANCE DOMAIN
TAP, JAZZ, CONTEMPORARY

What is your favourite dance memory?
One of my most memorable dance moments was when I was able to explore and innovate dance movement through improvisation and scores whilst responding to live improvised sound. It was such a beautiful exploratory of the power of art and creativity that I was fortunate to perform and experience.

What do you love about dance?
Choreographing and teaching pieces is one of my favourite things! Making patterns, telling a story through movement and having everyone come together to create something is magical.

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
Dance is movement, and everyone can move right? Dance how you want and what feels right for you, that's when you will enjoy it the most!

GABY BOULOS
TAP

What is your favourite dance memory?
There are SO MANY, but learning Bollywood dance as an adult was something unexpected that brought me so many fun, new experiences. I was lucky to be trained by friends and a huge highlight was being hired as a group to perform a 6 minute dance at a wedding!

What do you love about dance?
Dance is proven to be great for the mind, body and soul at all ages! I love spreading this joy to others and the fact that dance has the power to bring people together. I also love the variety of music dance exposes me to, my Spotify playlists are never ending!

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
I would advise aspiring dancers to approach dance as a life long skill, listen to your body (don’t ignore injuries!) and not be afraid to try new styles.

What is your favourite dance memory?
Favourite dance memory has to be MADSOC related. Directing the 2023 Major Production and watching the curtain close in between the first and seconds acts of the first show. I was so incredibly proud of the show and how it had come together I just burst into happy tears.

What do you love about dance?
I love how it makes me feel. I can just forget real life and become a different person for a little bit. I also love that it’s a mix of artistry and creativity but also intellect and passion. It’s got the best of everything.

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
Dance can be whatever you want it to be. It can be your career or your passion or something you like to do for fun.

What is your favourite dance memory?
There’s nothing better than a finale dance number of a production you were proud to be in! I’ve danced in five MADSOC shows and remember each finale so fondly

What do you love about dance?
I love how I feel when I dance - completely free from all the world’s stresses and anxieties. When I start to dance, my mood immediately lifts. I love the freedom and creativity that dance brings, and I love seeing the end product of movement that I can create.

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
Never stop dancing, even if it’s just one class whenever you can make it to a studio! Nothing will keep you in the game more than constantly moving your body and coming back to what you love

What is your favourite dance memory?
One of my most cherished dance memories revolves around competition days with my dance friends. The atmosphere was always filled with an exciting energy as we got ready together in the lively changing rooms, sharing countless laughs and words of encouragement before stepping onto the stage.

What do you love about dance?
Dance is my passion because of how it makes me feel. There is always a wave of excitement every time I step onto the dance floor. I love the thrill of expressing myself through movement and feeling completely free to let go and just dance. It's in those moments that I truly feel alive and in my element.

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?
Never lose sight of the joy and passion that drew you to dance in the first place. Keep dancing with love and dedication, and you'll continue to grow and flourish as a dancer.

ARIANE BEESTON

What is one of your future dance goals?
As someone who trained in classical ballet from the age of three, one of my dance goals is to bust out of my comfort zone and try some different styles! I’m working up the courage to attempt tap and hip hop ...

What do you love most about teaching at Dance Domain?
I love how friendly and welcoming and full of joy the Dance Domain community is. There’s so much creativity and camaraderie - and every day is different!

If i wasn’t dancing i’d be…?
If I wasn’t dancing I’d be writing! (Probably about dancing.)

PHIA
BALLET, JAZZ, LYRICAL

What is your favourite dance memory?

There are so many to choose from! One of them would have to be the first time I performed en pointe- it was such a massive achievement, and the dance was based on the willies from Giselle. So much fun!

What do you love about dance?

I love that dance is an abstract way to express emotions, tell a story, or communicate an idea. It's way less scary than public speaking. Also it's the most fun form of exercise!

What advice would you give to aspiring dancers?

Everyone learns things at different paces and in different ways, so don't compare yourself to others. Be proud of your own journey and achievements. And practice, practice, practice!

What is your favourite dance memory?
Attempting the Michael Jackson Thriller dance late at night over and over as a kid because it is the coolest choreography of all time.

What do you love about dance?
Dance has a wonderful history, it's a universal activity in all cultures, and there is evidence to say it has always been part of human life. It's also a fascinating social activity that encourages social bonding, inter-connectedness and elevated pain thresholds through synchronised movements. From a health perspective, there are great studies showing dance enhancing brain plasticity, so you're never too old to benefit from dancing!

Dance is an artistic expression and a unique way to bring your mind and body into harmony so explore, experiment, and engage with all different styles or create your own style!
